Time, what we do with it.

January 12, 2017

Time, it’s a funny thing. When you’re doing something that you don’t want to be doing it stands still. When you are doing something fun it flies by. When you are raising your kids they seem to grow up in the blink of an eye. You can try to stop time, slow down time, speed up time but whatever you try to do time keeps marching on.

Time is important to the things that we do in life but not as important as the things having time allows us to do. One of my favorite examples of this is Stephen Covey’s “Put the First Things First”. You can find this on YouTube)

When you see this example, you realize that there is time for just about everything as long as you put the first things first. The biggest obstacle is figuring out what your first things are, once you figure out what is truly important to you then you can decide what amount of time you have to devote to each of your categories.

There are a lot of different ways to treat time, you can manage time or mark time, time can work against you or it can be on your side. I would say though that people have the most difficulty managing time. See time is a living, breathing thing and you can’t “manage” another living, breathing thing you can only manage yourself. Instead of trying to learn to manage time what you should be concerned about is learning to manage your expectations and your actions. Once you can set realistic and obtainable goals time will manage itself. See we don’t really run out of time we simply set expectations that are unrealistic and unattainable in the timeframe that we set. One of the biggest challenges of completing a project or being successful in your endeavors is not staying on track to reach the goals that you have set out for yourself. So start the incoming year off in the right timeframe and make 2017 your best and most productive year yet.
